This creamy, healthy 5 ingredient smoothie tastes like an orange julius and a creamsicle pop combined. Vitamin C has never tasted so good!

I have the perfect recipe for you to beat the heat this toasty summer week. Have you ever had an Orange Julius drink before at the mall? Or an orange creamsicle popsicle in the summertime? Today’s shockingly simple smoothie recipe was inspired by both favorites. The tastes of vanilla and orange in one.

Creamy, cool, citrusy, lip-smackin’ protein-packed sweetness.

This shockingly simple smoothie is my current post-workout obsession. Couch + feet up + this smoothie + a spoonful of peanut butter (which turns into three spoonfuls of peanut butter) is how I unwind from a run these days. I’m already at 32 miles for July… 68 to go for my 100 mile challenge. Wooohooo.

This smoothie is the creamiest of creamy. If you’ve been reading my blog for awhile, then you know about my obsession with frozen banana. Seriously, if you want a creamy smoothie that is thick enough to eat with a spoon, then frozen banana is your answer. Typically smoothie recipes call for ice to thicken the texture, but I find ice waters it down. The frozen banana gets the job done without giving the smoothie a slushy texture. I love using them in my green smoothie and chocolate peanut butter protein smoothie, too.

(By the way… if you ever need a smoothie recipe without banana, my berry smoothie without bananas fits the bill.)

Frozen banana turns into a delicious vanilla tasting “soft serve” when blended with vanilla extract and a splash of milk. Instead of milk, however, I use a little orange juice. These three ingredients are the base of your orange creamsicle smoothie. Don’t worry, you can’t really taste the banana under the vanilla and orange.

Only a couple more ingredients until your orange creamsicle smoothie is complete. A little protein-packed Greek yogurt and an orange. Blend all this vitamin C packed goodness together until thick and smooth. That’s it!

A simple, 5 ingredient smoothie recipe that will make any day feel like summertime. For the record, I’ll be drinking these all year long thankyouverymuch.

Sometimes I add a little orange zest to up the ante. That’s optional! And for an added nutritious punch, try adding a handful of greens like kale or spinach to the smoothie.

If you love orange creamsicles and orange julius, this smoothie has your name written all over it. The recipe makes enough for 2 servings, but I usually drink one and then the rest a few hours later. You’ll probably drink the whole thing too. It’s so dang good!

A sunny day in a glass. Enjoy!

Instructions

  1. Make sure you have a strong, powerful blender to break down the frozen banana and orange. I like this smaller Ninja or this regular Ninja blender.
  2. On high, blend the frozen banana chunks, vanilla, and orange juice together until thick, creamy, and smooth – about 3 minutes. Scrape down the sides of the blender as needed. Add the yogurt, orange, and orange zest (if using). Blend until combined.
